Congratulations Michael Lane

2011 SEBRA National Champ

Michael Lane of Tazwell VA on the Brad Nelms bull, “Hoppin’ Mad” in the first round Saturday at the Second Round of the SEBRA National Finals. It wasn’t Lane’s highest-point ride of the weekend but he rode all three of his bulls to win both the weekend and the year-end buckles. Here, he earned a 77-point ride. In the first round Friday, Lane was tied with Eli Vastbinder of Casstown, OH and Brandon Davis of Lodi, OH with 87-point rides, each earning $1,920 for winning the Friday Long Round. Lane’s 77 took him out of the Long Round money Saturday night where  fellow Virginian, Billy Robinson of Galax, took home $2,240, split with Rookie of the Year Gage Gay of Staley, NC when both scored 85.5 points. Gay was in second place in the long-round Friday where he earned $640 with an 86-point ride. Saturday’s other long-round winners were Josh Skeen of Live Oak, FL and Winston Quesenberry with 85 and 84.5-point rides, respectively.

Rookie of the Year Gage Gay of Staley, NC rides Wes Begoon/BLM’S bull Sampson to a 70.5 and a reride where he scored an 86 on Wayne White’s bull Moe in the Long Round in Friday night. Gage’s scores on the weekend brought him up in the standings where he was raked 13th going into the finals, to pass by Rookie of the Year contenders  Dustin Olmstead of Hopkinton, IA and Eli Vastbinder of Casstown, OH who were ranked 5th and 6th in  the Top 40 going into the finals.

It was a Terepeat this year in the SEBRA National Finals Barrel Racing as Last year’s Champ, Teresa Quay of Urbana, OH won the season after going into the finals already in the top position. Her finals performance may not have been what she hoped this year and didn’t place her in the money, but her season earnings were enough for her to hold on to the top spot while Vandy Walden of Wingate, NC took home the weekend win. Round One Friday saw Walden take first with a time of 15.305 followed by Nicole Love of Staley, NC with a 15.602, Megan Oberdier of Cutler, OH, with a 15.667 run and Julie Stoval of Midlothian, VA with a 15.959. Round 2 saw Love come out in first with a 15.193 followed by Walden with a 15.427, Oberdier with a 15.538 and Esther Miller of Sugarcreek, OH with a 15.586. In the Average, Walden was first, followed by Love, Oberdier, Miller, Jessica Cantrell of Johnstown, OH and Ashlee Owens of Amelia, VA.

Thank you everyone for your part in an amazing record-breaking season. Look for many new events and producers this season while our SEBRA veterans continue to bring you their opportunities to make it to our 2012 Finals.
